9/11 Memorial Plaza
Avalon, NJ
The Avalon September 11th Memorial Plaza, dedicated in 2012 and located on Dune Drive near 21st Street, is a solemn, thoughtfully designed tribute that incorporates an actual 1,800‑pound I‑beam salvaged from the World Trade Center.
This beam stands precisely “9‑feet, 11‑inches” tall and is intentionally angled toward Manhattan at “9 degrees, 11 minutes”.
Surrounding it is a circular wall set exactly 9′11″ away—symbolizing the ebb and flow of life, love, and water—with bronze inlays in the plaza’s paving marking key moments of that tragic day, aligned with the beam’s shadow each September 11.
Illuminated at night and anchored by the inscription “…all that is good will endure,” the site—designed by Taylor Design Group and built largely through local donations and public works efforts—serves as a quiet space of reflection and education, honoring both the lives lost and the courage of first responders.
